Staunton-on-Wye Primary School

Welcome to Staunton-on-Wye Primary School

WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE

Our school is set in the village of Staunton-on-Wye , about 12 miles west of Hereford .  The school is housed in a very unusual three storey Victorian building.  It was originally built as a charity school over 100 years ago.  The school is set in beautiful countryside with

lovely views in all directions.

Surrounding the school itself is a large playground. There is a basketball court, football pitch and conservation area with a pond. Here is our own organic garden, which the children enjoy looking after themselves.

There are lots of trees and shrubs, some planted by the children themselves. We are a small school with approximately 60 children on role, taught in three classes. Next door to the school is the Pre-school on whose premises an after school Kids’ Club is held on a Tuesday and Friday evenings at present although this can change due to demand.

We aim to teach children well in a happy and friendly atmosphere, with good academic standards, combined with a recognition that children have different needs and progress at different rates. We are proud of our inclusive policy and we are successfully integrating a number of children with special needs into the school.

We are a hardy bunch at Staunton and go out to play in nearly all weathers.  A little bit of rain does not put us off.  It is therefore very important that children have their coats with them every day, whether the weather looks good in the morning or not.  If you have any old waterproofs that your children have grown out of we would love them for the welly shed!  We also do P.E. in virtually all weathers so please make sure your children have the correct kit in school at all times.  If you are unsure of the uniform requirements you can check on the next page of this website.
